FAQs

What is Injury Compensation and how does it cover medical treatment?

Workcover & CTP (compulsory third party) insurance covers medical and rehabilitation expenses for people injured at work or in a motor vehicle accident. This includes treatment such as doctors visits, physiotherapy and other necessary medical care related to the injury.

You may be eligible for medical treatment under these schemes if you were injured at work or in a motor vehicle accident. Eligibility depends on the scheme in your state.

A claim will usually need to be submitted for the nominated insurer to fund ongoing treatment.

In many cases initial treatment sessions do not require prior approval. Approval may be needed for ongoing and extended treatment.

A GP referral is not always required to start treatment. However, some services or insurers may request a referral as part of the approval process.

The insurer may cover a range of medical and allied health treatments related to your injuries. This can include psychological treatment, physiotherapy, chiropractic care and diagnostic imaging (such as x-rays or MRI’s), and in some cases, surgery, provided the treatment is considered reasonable, necessary and accident-related.
